Melbourne in the 1990's had an incredibly healthy alternative music scene. For ten years GOO Thursdays at the Metro was part of that... In 1995 GOO opened its doors onto Bourke St and established itself on the thriving Melbourne alternative scene soon becoming the biggest weekly alternative night in the southern hemisphere... Alive and kicking, serving patrons a healthy dose of all things alternative, punk, metal, rock, electronic, indie, goth, and everything in between, each and every Thursday night. In those ten years over one million people crossed the threshold into Goo where punks, skaters, surfers, metal heads, Goths, bogans, fairies, ravers, alternative types, and indie kids all came together with a common purpose... Goo was always about the music and the people... It was a place where everyone could be themselves and it was a family... So naturally there has to be a party to celebrate the 15th Birthday of that auspicious beginning.
On Friday 17th September the old school team are dusting off their Docs & Cons and bringing back many of the things that made Goo great. You do not need much knowledge of rap music history to know that the name ICE CUBE is synonymous with controversy. From his early days with N.W.A. to his subsequent solo career, Cube's music has been blamed for a lot of bad staff: inciting violence, racism, homophobia and sexism to name some. there is no denying that on the surface his lyrics are often irreverent and vulgar, but listen a little more closely and you will also hear the prophetic voice of a misplaced urban mass in turmoil. Out of Cube's mouth, the profane becomes the prolific and the rap becomes the voice of revolution.
